Treatment Tables

H-Brace, Open Shelf, Drawer and Full Cabinet Bases

A treatment table is a fixed-height platform for procedures, therapy, recovery and taping, and the specification that separates one from another is the base: an H-brace open frame, an open shelf, a shelf with drawers, or a full enclosed cabinet. This collection carries 77 tables from Clinton Industries, Bailey Manufacturing, Champion Manufacturing and Hausted.

The base decision is really a storage decision, and it is worth thinking through because it is permanent. An H-brace gives you a rigid, easy-to-clean frame and nowhere to put anything. A full cabinet gives you a room's worth of storage and a table that weighs a great deal and cannot be moved once positioned. Most clinics end up somewhere in between, and the right answer depends on whether the room already has cabinetry.

The second decision is the top: flat, or with an adjustable back. Flat tops are more durable and easier to clean because there are no moving joints. Adjustable backs let a patient sit up, which matters for respiratory assessment, conversation and anyone who cannot lie flat comfortably.

Which Base Configuration Do You Need?

Base Storage Best For
H-brace None Maximum rigidity, easy floor cleaning, rooms with existing cabinetry
Open shelf One or two open shelves Linens, pillows and bulky items kept to hand
Shelf with drawers Shelf plus drawers Small supplies that need to stay contained and out of sight
Full cabinet Doors and drawers throughout Rooms with no other storage; sports medicine and taping rooms

H-brace tables

The H-shaped cross brace between the legs is what stops the table racking sideways under manual force, which is why it is standard for therapy tables where a clinician leans into the work. See the Bailey 401 at 24w x 78l x 30h, the Bailey 411 at 300 lb, the Clinton 1010 Premium Classic, the 1015 Premium Classic 500 and the Clinton 3100 Alpha Series flat top.

Shelf and drawer tables

Open shelf options include the Bailey 432, the Clinton 1020 at 30 inch and the Clinton 1030 with shelving. With drawers: the Clinton 1135 and the Alpha 3130 with shelf and two drawers.

Cabinet tables

The Bailey 4301 cabinet table at 400 lb, the 4305 with six drawers and a door, and the 4310 and 4311 sports medicine tables with twin sliding doors or four doors. Sliding doors matter in a taping room where a hinged door swinging into the working space is a daily nuisance. Also the Bailey 446 with adjustable back and sliding doors and the 447 with a drawer added.

Flat Top or Adjustable Back?

A flat top has no moving parts, which makes it more durable, easier to clean and cheaper. An adjustable back lets the patient sit up, which is required for respiratory assessment, for taking a history, and for anyone who cannot lie flat.

In therapy, taping and recovery use, flat is usually right: the patient lies down, the work happens, they get up. In assessment and treatment rooms where you talk to the patient before and after, an adjustable back changes the encounter considerably, because a patient lying flat while being spoken to is at a disadvantage that most clinicians recognise the moment they think about it.

Adjustable back options: the Bailey 421, the Bailey 441 and the Champion Select 8570 at 30 inch standard height. Flat top: the Champion Select 8500 and the Clinton Alpha 3200 with full shelf.

For post-procedure recovery, the Champion Select 8550 recovery couch at 19 inch height sits lower, which makes getting on and off easier for a patient who is unsteady after a procedure.

Bariatric and Specialty Tables

Bariatric

Standard treatment tables are rated around 300 lb. Bariatric versions reinforce the frame and widen the top: the Bailey 4510 H-brace and 4511 plain shelf, and the 4515 and 4516 with adjustable back. Width matters as much as the rating here, since a patient who exceeds the top's width has nowhere stable to place their arms.

Space-saver and classroom

The Bailey 495 space-saver with 1 inch padding for rooms where a full-size table will not fit. The Bailey 487 classroom table with removable mat suits teaching settings where the mat comes off for cleaning between student groups.

Pediatric

The Bailey 155 Kinder Chair at 75 lb, with a matching accessory tray. See also Pediatric Exam Tables.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a treatment table and an exam table?

A treatment table is built for procedures, therapy, recovery and taping, usually with a flat or simply articulated top and a base chosen for storage or rigidity. An exam table is built for diagnostic examination and typically adds an adjustable backrest, integrated drawers, a paper roll dispenser, pull-out steps and often stirrups. The terms overlap between manufacturers, so read the configuration rather than the name. See Exam Tables for diagnostic configurations.

What is an H-brace and why does it matter?

An H-brace is a cross brace between the legs forming an H shape, which stops the table racking sideways when force is applied off-centre. That happens constantly in manual therapy, joint mobilisation and taping, where the clinician leans into the work. A table without adequate bracing develops a noticeable wobble over time, and a wobbling table undermines a clinician's ability to apply controlled force.

Should I choose a shelf, drawers or a full cabinet base?

It depends on what storage the room already has. Open shelves suit bulky items such as linens and pillows. Drawers suit small supplies that need to stay contained and out of sight. A full cabinet effectively replaces a storage unit, which suits a small room with no other cabinetry. Bear in mind that a cabinet table is heavy and effectively permanent once positioned, whereas an H-brace table can be moved by two people.

Flat top or adjustable back?

Flat tops have no moving joints, so they are more durable, easier to clean and lower cost, and they suit therapy, taping and recovery where the patient lies down throughout. An adjustable back lets the patient sit up, which matters for respiratory assessment, for taking a history, and for anyone who cannot lie flat comfortably. If the encounter involves conversation as well as treatment, the adjustable back earns its cost.

Why do sports medicine tables have sliding doors?

Because a hinged door swinging into the working space is a daily obstruction in a taping room, where staff work quickly around the table and often with an athlete already on it. Sliding doors open without projecting, which recovers the aisle space a hinged door needs. The Bailey 4310 and 4311 are configured this way for exactly that reason.

What weight capacity do treatment tables have?

Standard tables in this collection are typically rated 300 lb, with cabinet models reaching 400 lb. Bariatric versions reinforce the frame and widen the top for higher-weight patients. Weight capacity is a structural limit, not a comfort guideline, and top width matters alongside it: a patient wider than the top has nowhere stable to rest their arms, which affects both comfort and safety during treatment.

What height should a treatment table be?

Most fixed-height treatment tables sit at 30 inches, which suits a standing clinician working over the patient. Lower tables around 19 inches, such as recovery couches, make getting on and off easier for unsteady patients but require the clinician to bend more. If clinicians of very different heights share the room, or if patients frequently struggle to climb on, a hi-low powered table solves what a fixed height cannot.

How should treatment table upholstery be cleaned?

Use medical-grade disinfectant wipes or sprays formulated for healthcare vinyl and observe your facility's contact time protocol. Avoid repeated use of high-concentration bleach or high-percentage alcohol, which dry out vinyl and cause the surface cracking that eventually forces a top replacement. Cracked vinyl is an infection control problem before it is a comfort problem, since a split surface cannot be reliably decontaminated.

Do treatment tables ship assembled?

Cabinet-base tables generally ship pre-assembled on a pallet via freight and need only positioning. Open-frame H-brace and shelf tables may need minor assembly such as attaching legs. Individual product pages confirm the delivery method. For a multi-room order, request a quote so freight can be consolidated into one delivery.
