U-Base or H-Base?
A U-base has a single-sided C-shaped foot that rolls under the bed frame, which is what makes it an overbed table. An H-base has feet on both sides, is more stable, and does not go under a bed; it is for use beside a recliner, lift chair or sofa. U-base for beds: the Drive 13067, 13003, 16008 UCEO, 16011 UCGW and 16012 UCBO. H-base for chairs: the 16005 HCFMV, 16011 HOQO spring-assisted and the 16012 H-series in figured mahogany, solar oak, wild cherry and grey. For a lift chair specifically, the 13085LN left position and 13085RN right position tables approach from outside the chair arm.
Tilt Top or Flat?
A tilt top angles for reading, a tablet or writing, but nothing with liquid in it stays on an angled surface. A flat top holds meals and drinks. A double tilt top splits the surface so one half angles and the other stays flat. Which Lift Mechanism?
A crank or screw adjustment needs two hands and some strength. Spring-assisted and pneumatic lifts move with one hand, which lets the patient set the height themselves. Auto-touch mechanisms release with a light press, for users with limited grip. Spring-assisted: the Drive 13081 and 16011 HOQO. Pneumatic: the 13008. Auto-touch: the Invacare 6417 and 6418. For loads beyond standard tables, the Dynarex Bari-Max at 500 lb.
