How Do I Choose the Right Blood Pressure Cuff Size?
Measure the circumference of the upper arm at its midpoint, between the shoulder and the elbow, and match that measurement to the cuff's stated range. Every cuff in this collection lists its range in both inches and centimetres, so the match is a direct comparison rather than a judgement.

The wide-range cuff at 22 to 42 cm covers most adults, which is why it appears on the majority of monitors here. But it does not cover everyone, and an arm at 45 cm needs the extra large cuff, not the wide range one stretched to its limit. For clinics seeing a broad patient population, stocking a second cuff size is cheaper than the consequences of measuring everyone on one.

Office Blood Pressure Monitors
Office monitors are built for repeated daily use by clinical staff, with faster cycle times, more durable cuffs and, on some models, both oscillometric and auscultatory measurement in one device.
Dual-mode measurement
Oscillometric measurement detects arterial pressure oscillations electronically. Auscultatory measurement listens for Korotkoff sounds, which is the manual method a clinician performs with a stethoscope. A dual-mode device supports both, letting the clinician verify an unusual automated reading manually without moving the patient to different equipment. The A&D UM-211 does both.
Automated office blood pressure (AOBP)
An AOBP-capable monitor takes a series of readings automatically after a set rest period, typically with the patient unattended, and averages them. Home Monitors: Upper Arm and Wrist
Upper arm monitors are generally preferred for home self-measurement because wrist monitors are highly sensitive to arm position, and a wrist held at the wrong height produces a reading that is wrong by a clinically meaningful amount.
A wrist monitor must be held at heart level to read correctly. Held in the lap it reads high; held above the shoulder it reads low. The device cannot tell the difference, and neither can the patient looking at the number. For patients who cannot use an upper arm cuff, because of arm size, pain or limited dexterity, wrist monitors are a reasonable alternative with clear instruction on positioning. As a default, upper arm is the safer recommendation.
