An expandable bariatric frame adjusts its deck width without replacing the bed, so one frame can serve patients of different sizes across successive admissions. For a long-term care facility or a rental fleet this changes the economics substantially, because you are not holding separate inventory at each width.

Bariatric mattresses come in two functional types: pressure redistribution foam surfaces, and therapeutic surfaces engineered for higher risk patients. Both come cut to bariatric widths of 48 or 54 inches and in 80 or 84 inch lengths, and you specify all three dimensions against the frame.
