Halo Safety Wing Bed Mobility Device with Below-Mattress Bars, 360° Rotation and Home or Hospital Bed Brackets

The Halo Safety Wing is an adjustable bed mobility device that combines a circular rotating handle with additional bars that fall below the surface of the mattress. Per Halo Mobility Solutions, it is designed to promote independence and encourage strength building with assisted movement, and the lower bars offer protection from bed entrapment zone 4. Per the manufacturer, its solid steel locking mechanism allows 360° rotation to assist users with a variety of grips and offer support during transfers.

Halo Mobility Solutions recommends that individuals, physicians and caregivers consider the Wing for users living in memory care, or for those experiencing a decline in cognitive or physical function. If protection against bed entrapment is not necessary, the manufacturer points to the Halo Safety Ring, which offers the same mobility benefits.

The Wing is offered for two bed types. Home-style models (ALC) fit traditional metal L-frame beds that hold a boxspring and mattress, twin through queen. Hospital bed models use a separate bracket system that installs on the bed's adjustable frame. Each bracket system attaches to both sides of the bed frame and connects under the bed, and the Wing can be installed on one side or on both sides.

Per Halo Mobility Solutions, the Halo Safety Wing meets the FDA dimensional guidelines for bed entrapment zones 1, 2, 3 and 4. The FDA does not approve bed system devices; it sets the dimensional guidelines they must meet.

Installation notes per Halo Mobility Solutions: home-style model numbers begin with 77121, and hospital bed model numbers begin with 773 or 777. The home-style (ALC) bracket includes a piece that extends to the floor, while the hospital bed model installs on the adjustable frame above the bed's crease. Some hospital beds are not compatible with the hospital bed bracket system, for example when the bed's motor or hardware blocks installation or the U-channel bracket does not fit the shape of the frame. Halo devices should never be installed on adjustable beds, platform beds, or beds with wooden frames or wooden slats. Installation videos are available from Halo Mobility Solutions.
