The So Lite C2 is Journey's lightest manual wheelchair. The frame is a magnesium-aluminum alloy of the kind used in aviation, which brings the complete chair to 26.5 lbs against the 38 to 50 lbs typical of a steel wheelchair. That difference is felt by whoever lifts it into a trunk rather than by the person sitting in it.
It is a self-propelling chair: the 20 inch rear wheels carry handrims, so the user can push independently, and a caregiver can push from the handles instead. Braking is doubled up, with parking locks and hand brakes on the push handles. Curb climbers on the rear frame let a caregiver tip the chair back to clear a step with a foot rather than a lift. For storage the rear wheels, footrests and anti-tip supports pull off without tools, the backrest folds down and the armrests flip back, which also opens the side up for a lateral transfer onto a bed or sofa.
Journey classes the So Lite C2 as a personal mobility device. It is FDA registered and cleared. Journey rates it for dry, flat surfaces and advises against muddy or slippery roads, soft lawns, ice and snow. It is a standard wheelchair with no reclining, exercise or bathing function, and Journey states it should not be used on stairs or escalators.
